The lighting for ITV Sport’s Euro 2016 coverage was a winner at this year’s Knight of Illumination Awards. The project saw Lighting Designers Chris Hollier and Andy Cottey work closely with the WL team to utilise d3 technology.

d3 Technologies’ integrated solution has been at the heart of some of the world’s most spectacular live events; from concert touring to theatre to broadcast and even architecture. The d3 software allows you to visualise, design and sequence your project before seamlessly turning your concept into a creation using one of their hardware solutions. Their new gx range, which was on show at this week’s PLASA London, pushes real time responsive content to new heights, allowing you to discover unimagined new ways to connect with your audience.

As the technical solution specialist, White Light has drawn on d3’s state-of-the-art technology for a wide range of projects across a variety of markets. WL, who were announced as a d3 Solution Provider earlier this year, have now become a d3 Rental and Sales Partner, making them the first company in a position to offer all three aspects of the full service Certified System Provider.

Lee Dennison, WL’s Head of Business Development, comments: “We are delighted to be the first global company to hold the position of full service d3 Certified System Provider, which marks the next step in our growing relationship with d3 Technologies.  As a company renowned for our sales, rental and installation services, we want to ensure that our wide range of customers are able to benefit from drawing on the d3 brand. With this new partnership, we are able to combine our creative vision, expert staff and years of experience with d3’s revolutionary technology to ensure that their products are used as innovatively as possible; whatever the occasion”.

WL drew on d3 technology for the University of Cambridge Fundraiser at Banqueting House. The event has been shortlisted for an international award for its ground-breaking use of technology.

Sarah Cox, Sales Director EMEA for d3 Technologies, states: “We’ve been really impressed with how WL has utilised d3 within their projects over the last year. For the recent University of Cambridge fundraiser at Banqueting House, the company used our 4x4pro media server to project animated graphics onto the building’s interior windows; creating a fully immersive environment. Projects like this show how d3 can be used creatively and it’s no surprise that the event has now been shortlisted for an award”.

Lee adds: “Over the past twelve months, WL and d3 have collaborated on a range of projects, from the ITV Sport Formula E Studio to the ground-breaking interactive training system for ATT to the adidas F2 live show which was streamed from the roof of BBC Television Centre. With several more international projects in the pipeline over the upcoming months, this is a really exciting time for both companies as we offer innovative solutions that previously weren’t available”.

WL’s appointment as a full service Certified System Provider began immediately with d3 Technologies at this week’s PLASA Show, London. The d3 team was on-hand to speak to customers about the appointment as well as showcase the eagerly awaited gx range, which is now shipping across the EMEA region.

White-Light-at-PLASA-2016The PLASA Show returns to Olympia London next month for what will be its 40th anniversary. The event will once again present ground-breaking technology and exciting new launches by the world’s greatest designers and engineers. As the technical solutions specialist, White Light will be exhibiting on stand L50 where its expert staff will be on hand to meet customers old and new as well as present a range of revolutionary technology.

This year’s PLASA Show promises to be the most exciting yet. Located in the heart of West London, there will be live demo opportunities for the audio and lighting sectors, technical workshops, training sessions along with topical seminars. WL’s Head of Business Development Lee Dennison comments: “We are delighted to be returning to the PLASA Show after what has been yet another significant twelve months for the company. In that time, we’ve become the in-house technical supplier at Claridge’s Hotel, installed exhibitions at the V&A and Saatchi Gallery, supported the relaunch of Hintze Hall at the Natural History Museum as well as continued to supply the biggest shows in the West End”.

The company has also continued to invest heavily in the latest technology and will be displaying a range of products available on ShopWL at the show. This includes d3 Technologies – for which WL has recently been appointed as a Certified Solutions Provider. Lee comments: “The larger and more ambitious the projects we work on become, the more we have found ourselves drawing on d3 products. As the world’s first integrated video production suite, it really is the ultimate software to visualise, design and sequence projects. We have our own fleet of d3 hardware which we are really looking forward to discussing with customers”.

Interactive Technologies is a world-class producer of professional lighting controls for the architectural, entertainment, stage and studio markets. The company’s products will also be on the WL stand, including the CueServer 2 which will be demonstrated by Interactive’s staff. Peter Threadgold, WL’s Customer Services Director, states: “The CueServer 2 has completely revolutionised lighting playback, making it much more user friendly. It can also be customised for different installation environments, eliminating the need for external adaptors. It’s exciting that we’ll be able to show this first-hand to those visiting the stand”.

Also on the stand is Wireless Solution. Wireless Solution designs and produces W-DMX™ , the twice award-winning Wireless DMX system that is today the un-official standard for those that require the most dependable product available for transmitting lighting control data wirelessly, no matter the distance or location. The products on the WL stand include the revolutionary BlackBox G5, which both transmits and receives mode of DMX and RDM signals as well as operates in three different frequency bands, giving access to more channels.

This year’s PLASA Show takes place from 17-19th September. Also on display will be a range of other equipment stocked by WL including lighting fixtures, smoke machines, several LED video walls and video ceiling from Ledgo.

Lee comments: “We’re really excited to be displaying at the PLASA Show once again – especially in its 40th year. Looking at the programme, there is once again a hive of activity and we really look forward to catching up with old friends and creating new relationships”.

  3. White Light Makes the Grade for Immersive University of Cambridge Event

University of Cambridge Event 2 © James Mackenzie PhotographyLast week, Banqueting House played host to the University of Cambridge who held a celebration event to engage key stakeholders with its latest campaign. The 250 guests, who were a mixture of alumni, stakeholders and senior representatives from the University, enjoyed a drinks reception, dinner, speeches from academic and student speakers, including Stephen Fry, along with an immersive video experience. As one of the cross-palace approved suppliers to Historic Royal Palaces, White Light was called upon to provide the complete technical solutions on this important occasion.

The event was overseen by WL’s Creative Producer Richard Stirzaker. He comments: “The University of Cambridge first approached us back in October last year telling us that they were hosting a high-profile event and wanted to make the most out of the fantastic space at Banqueting House. They also knew they wanted to draw heavily on video projection to make the occasion as immersive as possible”.

University of Cambridge Event 1 © James Mackenzie PhotographyThe University of Cambridge team made a site visit to Banqueting House where WL conducted a projection test. Richard adds: “We worked closely with the event’s Production Manager Vaughan Roberts along with Rachel Mortimer Holdsworth, University of Cambridge’s Events Manager, and creative agency johnson banks to create an ideal solution. Along with creating an immersive feel, the client also wanted to make full use of the incredible architecture within Banqueting House”.

To achieve this, WL used d3 technology to create a 3D model of the main space within Banqueting House. WL’s Video Engineering Manager Darren Terry used this to further demonstrate to the University of Cambridge team the various options they could achieve.

Richard adds: “Following a lot of creative collaboration, it was decided that we would use the windows within the space as the main focal point of projection. This meant that throughout the evening, in particular during the live speeches, we could literally bring that space to life”.

WL achieved this through animation by johnson banks, who are responsible for Cambridge’s ‘Dear World…Yours, Cambridge’ branding and who created footage related specifically to each speech. Richard states: “We achieved the projection using a Christie 5K Projector, with the footage run via a d3 server. The end result was a truly immersive experience and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before within that space”.

The evening consisted of a drinks reception in the Undercroft followed by dinner in the main room which featured key speeches made by affiliates of the University of Cambridge including Stephen Fry. Alongside the projection, WL supplied the lighting, PA system, power distribution and even staging.

JMAC9301.2000pxRachel comments: “This was an incredible evening for the University of Cambridge in such magnificent surroundings. We are extremely grateful to WL for helping us achieve our vision and for being so supportive throughout”.

Jennifer Lockham, Head of Banqueting House, adds: “It was fantastic to see our beautiful venue once again transformed by the very latest technology thanks to WL. It further emphasised the potential of this historic building and how boundaries can continually be pushed when it comes to hosting events”.
