1. White Light Gets Connected for New Smith Centre Venue at the Science Museum

   Following the overwhelming success of the Science Museum’s progressive new multi-function, dedicated events venue Illuminate launching earlier this year, the Museum has added yet another option to its burgeoning portfolio. The recently developed Smith Centre has been repurposed to offer four unique spaces available for exclusive daytime or evening hire. As Illuminate’s in-house technical production partner, White Light was called upon to install the AV infrastructure and equipment solutions throughout.

   Utilising the same state-of-the-art Crestron NVX series control system and Audinate Dante network built into Illuminate’s Levels 4 & 5, the Smith Centre is now operational as a fully connected venue. This means that clients can hire both venues simultaneously for events and broadcast live coverage of what is happening within each space, across the multiple rooms.

   

   This connectivity enables a range of uses, from presenter Green Rooms for guest speakers to watch the main event remotely, to conference breakout sessions where audio and video content can be sent instantaneously between the venues.

The Crestron NVX system allows for infinite flexibility, which is essential for meeting the bespoke needs of a broad range of clients.”

   

   Jodie Guilford, Business Development & Marketing Manager at the Science Museum adds: “Many of our clients are often looking for ways to extend the reach of their event content and increase their audience. The connection between our two newest venues means that they can achieve this all under our roof, with the ability to conduct large main plenary sessions and smaller breakouts simultaneously. This has significantly enhanced our events offer.”

2. White Light Agrees New Three-year Contract with Central Hall Westminster

   Central Hall Westminster today announces that it has extended its contract with AV Production Service Partner, White Light, for a further three years.

   The renewal of WL’s contract means that the leading AV company will continue to oversee the technical requirements of events taking place within the historic central London venue, ensuring every space is equipped with the very latest technology.

   WL was first appointed as the venue’s Production Service Partner in 2015 and during this time, has transformed its flexible and varied spaces with cutting-edge technology to accommodate the large number of concerts, live and recorded television shows, conferences, exhibitions, seminars and graduation ceremonies.

   One of the company’s main roles at Central Hall Westminster was overseeing a brand-new AV installation including the very latest lighting, audio, video and rigging technology, increasing the number of options available to clients. The remit for the new installation included achieving faster turnaround times, a user-friendly AV system and sleek, discrete equipment which blended in with the building’s unique early 20^th Century architecture.

   Paul Southern, Managing Director of Central Hall Westminster, comments: “We are delighted to be renewing WL’s contract for a further three years after a very successful partnership. WL is an integral part of our team and the company has helped us to service over 1000 diverse events from the now famous New Year’s Eve concerts to live television broadcasts to numerous large conferences. We are looking forward to another three years of success and further development of our AV equipment, including the installation of permanent HD LCD screens in our meeting rooms which are used to show presentations or facilitate group discussions.”

   The prestigious Claridge’s Hotel where WL will be in-house technical supplier

   As the complete technical solution specialist, White Light has established a reputation for providing technical solutions in some of the country’s most prestigious venues. Not only is the company an approved technical supplier at Historic Royal Palaces, Unique Venues of London, Saatchi and Tate, but also offers exclusive in-house technical services to prestigious venues such as Central Hall Westminster. Adding to its increasing venue portfolio, White Light has recently been appointed as the in-house technical supplier to Claridge’s, which is regarded as one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.

   Located in the heart of Mayfair, Claridge’s is synonymous with hotel luxury and impeccable service. Part of the prestigious Maybourne Hotel Group, previous guests include Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Alfred Hitchcock and current members of the Royal Family. The grade-II listed building hosts over 200 rooms along with a series of event spaces.

   Similar to other venues where WL offers in-house technical services, the company’s role at Claridge’s will be providing a dedicated in-house technical team who will be on hand to support any event taking place within this prestigious location. With a £3million annual investment in the latest equipment, WL will ensure that Claridge’s is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

The spaces here include board meeting rooms, lavish ballrooms and intimate dining rooms, meaning they host a wide range of events – something we will now be providing the technical support for.

   He adds: “The resources that we will be bringing to Claridge’s, both in terms of staff and equipment, will offer the hotel further options when hosting events. Our role is to ensure that each event, regardless of size, achieves its potential and we will work closely with each client from the initial briefing stages through to the final delivery; meaning each one can be completely confident in the service they are receiving”.

   This month also marks two years since WL took up its first venue services role at the prestigious Central Hall Westminster, central London’s largest purpose-built conference centre. In the first year alone, WL oversaw an extensive technical installation within the venue’s numerous spaces, including a brand new audio system in The Great Hall, which is home to Europe’s largest domed roof.

We ultimately want to ensure that every venue is being used to its maximum potential; in terms of the actual space along with its profitability”.

   Alongside Claridge’s, WL has been appointed as the in-house technical supplier at The Connaught Hotel, which is also part of the Maybourne Hotel Group. The company plans on adding further venues to its ever-growing list over the next few months.

4. White Light Supplies CSJ Awards at Central Hall Westminster

   The CSJ Awards celebrate and reward the work of voluntary organisations who are not only helping people to turn their lives around but who are also implementing innovative ways to address and prevent the root causes of poverty. This year they were held at Central Hall Westminster. As the venue’s Production Service Partner, White Light provided the complete technical solutions.

   The CSJ Awards took place on Tuesday 21^st March and were organised by the Centre of Social Justice. Jonjo Glynn, WL’s Venues Director, comments: “The CSJ Awards is a fantastic event and we really wanted to make use of the brilliant spaces at Central Hall to create an unforgettable evening”.

   When guests arrived, they entered the foyer area where they were greeted by digital signage featuring a custom awards animation. They were then lead into the Library for a drinks reception before the main event which took place in the Lecture Hall.

   Jonjo states: “We essentially had creative freedom with this project so offered full themed lighting throughout. Whether it was the drinks reception, the awards presentation or even the performance from Ruth Brown from The Voice UK, each section of the evening had a dedicated look”.

   As part of the technical support, WL utilised Martin Aura XB LEDs, CORE Lighting ColourPoints, ETC Source Fours and Showline SL Strips. The company also provided full audio support for the various presentations and speeches. This included EM Acoustic HALO C Loudspeakers, Shure microphones and a Yamaha QL1 Mixer.

   In the Lecture Hall, WL supplied a Christie Projector for the various video presentations which took place throughout the evening. The company also built a custom-made set.

   Jonjo adds: “Due to the popularity of Central Hall, we had literally one hour to set up in the Library space. Therefore we had to ensure that everything was fully prepared and ready for installation to maximise on the limited amount of time we had”.

   Winners on the evening included Auditory Verbal UK, who took the CSJ Model of Excellence Award, The Clink, who won the CSJ Social Enterprise Award whereas charities Steps2Recovery, Red Balloon and Invisible Walls Wales also received accolades. Presenters on the night included Jeremy Paxman, Andy McNab, Martin Lewis and Iain Duncan Smith.

   Jonjo adds: “What was great about this event was that it showcased how all of the spaces within Central Hall can be utilised to host any type of event. The combination of magnificent architecture and state-of-the-art technology  means we are able to offer a unique location for any occasion held within Central London”.

5. White Light in the Running for London Marathon Event

   Now in its 38^th year, the London Marathon is the Guinness World Record’s largest annual fundraising event across the globe. It has raised more than £800 million for charity and more than a million runners have participated. This year’s Virgin Money London Marathon takes place on Sunday 23^rd April. As a means of preparation, every year London Marathon Events Ltd hold a Meet the Experts day in which runners can meet the marathon experts and ask any questions they may have. This year’s event took place at Central Hall Westminster and White Light provided the complete technical solutions.

   The Meet the Experts day took place on Saturday 4^th February. Central Hall was chosen due to its Central London location along with the fact that it is literally metres away from the Virgin Money London Marathon’s finish line.

   Jonjo Glynn, WL’s Venues Director, comments: “This was a fantastic event for anyone who is participating in the marathon to ensure they are fully prepared for the event. As there would be a lot of talks and interactive Q and A sessions, we wanted to ensure that the best production support was in place”.

   The main sessions were held in the Great Hall, Central Hall’s flagship space. As part of the production support, WL supplied ETC Source Four Zooms, DPA d:screet™ Mini Lecture Microphones, Shure Radio Mics, an EM Acoustic PA System along with Christie Projectors.

   Alongside the events taking place in the Great Hall, adidas had created stores in both the Lecture Hall and Library area which hosted their official VMLM clothing range and also gave guests an interactive 3D footscan.

   Jonjo adds: “All three spaces were extremely busy throughout the day and we realised that there would be those in the adidas stores who would potentially miss out on what was being said in the Great Hall. To address this, we positioned a large projection screen in the Lecture Hall and Library where we relayed a live stream of the talks being given upstairs, ensuring that no one missed any of the action”.

   Speakers on the day included the Event Director Hugh Brasher, the London Marathon’s announcer Geoff Wightman and BBC newsreader and marathon runner Sophie Raworth. WL also provided custom-made gobos which featured the Virgin Money London Marathon branding.

   

   Dani Nimmock, Organiser of Meet the Experts from London Marathon Events Ltd, comments: “The Central Hall tech team that worked on the day were thorough and reliable and kept a close attention to detail throughout. They were very professional and a pleasure to work with. I felt that our production was in very safe hands and that nothing was too much to ask for”.

Hosting conferences on an almost daily basis, we are always able to deliver the clients’ exact requirements; both on time and on budget”.
