As 2017 draws to a close, it has been another successful year for White Light. The company remains the leading lighting supplier to West End theatre, has won awards for its innovative work on corporate events and continues to offer technical support on some of the world’s most watched sporting broadcasts. Still based in South West London, the company recently made donations to two charities in the local area. These were The Merton and Morden Guild along with the Merton Faith in Action.
The Merton and Morden Guild of Social Service is a registered charity which aims to offer activities to older people in the community. The Guild was inaugurated in 1945 following the end of World War 2 and works predominantly with older people to encourage independence, wellbeing and happiness in later life. The Guild is run largely by local volunteers and sources all of its activities, exercise classes, food, dinners and fundraisers from local business and providers. It also works closely with Merton council and has been chosen as the Mayor’s Charity on numerous occasions.
Also based in Merton is the Faith in Action homeless charity. Faith in Action is a homeless drop-in centre open every Wednesday and Friday and is based in Wimbledon’s Salvation Army Hall. The centre welcomes all rough sleepers, street users and those who are precariously housed. It guarantees a very warm welcome to all of those who enter its doors and the facilities it offers include a home-cooked lunch, shower and laundry facilities, clothes and food parcels along with support internet access, giving assistance to those registering online forms. Similar to the Guild, the organisation is largely reliant on the voluntary services of others.
Having frequently shown its support for charities within the local community, WL has donated to both the Guild and Faith in Action this festive season. Bryan Raven, WL’s Managing Director, comments: “Whilst the festive season is a time of celebration, it’s also a time of reflection and appreciating that there are large groups who need the support of others. This is especially true of the older generation and those sleeping on the streets. Therefore when WL’s Peri Kennedy and Jessica DeCourcey suggested making a donation to each, we felt obliged to help”.
For both charities, WL donated a cheque of £2,000. For Faith in Action, the company’s staff also donated their own clothes which would then be passed onto those that needed them.
Bryan adds: “Although we have grown exponentially over the past two years, we still remain a very friendly and local company who are always eager to ensure that our success is felt within the community. Hopefully these donations will make a difference to two fantastic charities within the Merton area”.
